I've been getting some not-so-gentle reminders recently that I haven't updated the newsletter for some time, so here we go....

The strimmer, which we use to keep the grass around the clubhouse under control, has come to a grinding halt! Bill Banks has
taken it apart and declared it "a goner !". It seems that ordinary petrol may have been mistakenly used, rather than the petrol/oil
mix it requires, leading to seizure and internal damage. We have "borrowed" the Chairman's strimmer for now but intend to buy
a replacement for the damaged one in the next few weeks. If anyone needs to top up the fuel tank, please make sure you use
the correct fuel, in the clearly marked "2 Stroke" can.

The combination lock used to secure the gate has stopped working and has now been replaced by an identical model (and the
code is still the same as that printed on your membership card). We bought the original from Screwfix and they changed the
faulty one without  a quibble. If you lock/unlock the gate, can you please make sure that the lock is placed under the plastic
flap to help keep the weather off the mechanism.

Alan, our Chairman has organised a small working party to touch-up the paint on the clubhouse where this has started to flake -
primarily on the base girder close to the ground. This will probably be completed by the time you read this, so thanks to those
who volunteered to help maintain this important club asset.

Bill Banks, in addition to his role as "Gardening Equipment Inspector" has taken over the not inconsiderable task of cooking
breakfasts. Mmmm...!! Well done Bill.

The relentless march of electric powered models continues in the club, and I have been having some great fun with my ducted
fan F-16 and Pitts-12 bi-plane ( or I was until the F-16 flew through the barbed wire fence..! ). Dave Fenton has a whole fleet of
electric models ( Hangar 9 Pawnee, Parkzone Habu D/F sport jet & JP Twister Storm 3D helicopter come to mind ). His latest
aquisition is a ducted fan Sukhoi 27 complete with retractable undercarriage and vectored thrust. When this vectoring is used,
the jet reminds me of a dog chasing it's tail. Responsive doesn't quite describe it..! To save the club's solar panel from going
floppy, Dave brings his own 12v car battery to keep all his batteries charged. To quote him - "Yesterday (Saturday) I managed
some 25 flights between 3 models and managed to consume some 65 Ah from the car battery. It just goes to show how power
hungry EDF’s are...". I suggested that what he really needed was a portable nuclear reactor....

Make sure you get out and enjoy some stick time while the weather's good...

Peter Robinson
Club Secretary
